Children & Youth

“But Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.’" (Matthew 19:14)

Throughout the Bible, God speaks about the singular importance of children and young people. Because children and young people are important to God, children and young people are important to us, too! As the Anglican Communion of which Saint Matthias is part has noted, “Children's enthusiastic expressions of faith can help transform the church and everyone in it." To this end, at Saint Matthias we seek to provide opportunities for our kids to participate fully in our community and to help our youngest members along in the earliest stages of lifelong Christian formation.

Sunday Morning Nursery/Childcare

For kids under four years old, we provide childcare each and every Sunday from 9 AM until the end of the 10 AM service. This said, if you prefer, babies and young children are always welcome in the church with their parents or caregivers.

Sunday School

On Sunday mornings, our children and youth gather in the Sunday School classroom to study God's love, grace, joy, peace and hope. We have programs for kids from preschool through high school, all of which begin at 10 AM and last about 30-45 minutes, usually just before the 10 AM service Holy Communion, at which time kids file into the church to reunite with their parents. In the summer, we offer special programs that emphasize art and music in faith.

Second Sundays

Join us every second Sunday of the month for adventures. Recently, kids at Saint Matthias have been to the movies at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, tried out rock climbing and ice blocking, and learned about candle making and even Thai cooking! Part of our time is also dedicated to mission projects related to our commitment to community outreach; in the past we have helped the Interfaith Foo Center in Santa Fe Springs, for example, as well as the Women's and Children's Crisis Shelter. We have a great time exploring the wonder of God's world, and encourage others to join us.
