The name Tenebrae is from the Latin word for "darkness" or "shadows". Tenebrae is a candlelight service of chanting Psalms, readings from ancient and sacred texts and meditations on the passion of Christ. During the service, candles are gradually extinguished until only a single candle, a symbol of our Lord, remains.

Thursday, April 2

We will follow in the footsteps of Jesus and his friends as they celebrated the Passover the night before his crucifixion. The Maundy Thursday service, including Washing of Feet and Hands, will conclude with Stripping of the Altar and establishment of an Altar of Repose where we will have the opportunity to watch one hour as Christ asked his disciples in Matthew 26:40.

Friday Thursday, April 3

We will prayerfully walk the Stations of Cross with Jesus through his trial, conviction, suffering and death on the cross.

This solemn service commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus with the reading of the passion gospel, ancient prayers for the world and Veneration of the Cross.

Saturday, April 4

An ancient celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Holy Saturday, the Great Vigil is a dramatic, multi-sensory liturgy that moves from darkness to light, featuring the lighting of the Paschal candle, scriptural readings, and the first Eucharist of Easter with the ringing of bells and shouts of Alleluia.
